Referral codes: a genuinely different mechanism from promo codes
Referral codes are routinely lumped in with promo codes and they work completely differently. A promo code is meant to be entered by you. A referral code identifies who sent you — and both sides typically get something.
The short answer
- Does a referral scheme exist?
- Yes — the operator references referral rewards
- Who benefits
- Usually both referrer and new player
- Common structure
- A percentage of the referred player’s first purchase
- Main risk
- Self-referral voids both accounts
How referral differs from promo
| Promo code | Referral code | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it identifies | A campaign | A specific existing player |
| Who benefits | You | Usually both parties |
| Where it comes from | Marketing | Someone you know |
| Publicly postable | In principle | Yes, but see the risks |
| Does it exist here? | Not as a public typeable code | Yes |
This distinction resolves a common confusion. People search for promo codes, find referral codes, use them, and conclude codes work — when what worked was a different mechanism entirely. Our promo code testing covers the other half.
The typical structure
Referral rewards in this segment commonly pay the referrer a percentage of the referred player's first purchase, sometimes with a coin bonus to the new player as well. A figure around 15% of a first purchase is the shape frequently associated with this operator's scheme.
Note what that means: the referrer's reward is usually contingent on the new player spending money. A referral that signs up and plays entirely free often generates nothing for the referrer. That is worth knowing before you promise a friend a share of something that may never materialise.
The rules that void referral rewards
Referral fraud is common, so anti-abuse rules here are strict and enforced at verification.
- Self-referral. Creating a second account to refer yourself is the most-detected abuse in the category. It voids both accounts and the balances on them.
- Household referrals. Same address, same device or same payment instrument frequently triggers the same treatment, even when both people are genuine.
- Incentivised sign-ups at scale. Mass posting of referral links can be treated as abuse rather than referral.
- Unverified referrals. Rewards typically require the referred account to complete verification before anything pays out.
Using referrals sensibly
- Find your own referral link in the account area rather than assuming a format.
- Share it with people who were independently interested. Talking someone into a gambling-adjacent product for a percentage of their spending is a poor thing to do to a friend.
- Set expectations honestly — the reward usually depends on their purchase, which they may never make.
- Never create accounts for family members "to help them sign up". That is the household rule waiting to happen.
- Check whether the reward arrives as Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins. Only the latter has any prize value.
New players get the standard welcome package with or without a referral.

Referral codes and affiliate links are the same idea at different scales. A player refers friends for coins; a publisher refers readers for commission. This site is the second kind, and we disclose it at the top of every page.
Which is why we would rather tell you that referral rewards are purchase-contingent, and that the incentive structure quietly encourages the referrer to push spending. Knowing how someone is paid is the most useful context for weighing what they tell you — ours included.
